Alumni Spotlight:
Dan Shafer (‘91)
- Pastor of All Nations Baptist Church in
Woodhaven, NY
“Faithful is he that calleth you, who
also will do it” (1 Thessalonians 5:24). I can still remember this
wise counsel I received while I was a student at TCA. As I reflect on
the past twenty-three years since I graduated from high school (TCA
class of ’91), I can state emphatically that this Biblical promise has
helped me more times than I can count. Indeed, God has guided,
clarified, provided, and strengthened me in so many numerous ways in my
life and ministry. As I am typing this article from my home in NYC, I
am amazed again of God’s faithfulness in my life! Below is a testament
to the FAITHFULNESS of God.
As a student at TCA, I felt God’s calling
in my life to enter ministry while attending a Missions’ Conference
service for all Academy students (mandatory). I will ever be thankful
for that day - that service - that speaker - and God’s personal work in my
heart! Upon graduating from high school, I enrolled as a student in
Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, Florida, where I met my future
wife, Laurie. We were married in May of 1995. I am so grateful for her
and for the two children that God has miraculously given to us!
Food Give Away
God’s faithfulness has been interwoven
throughout my ministry journeys for the past nineteen years. Between
the years of 1995-2002, I served in two distinct ministries, one in
Florida and one in Rhode Island. Serving in an assistant’s capacity in
both ministries, I quickly learned that men and ministry will never be
as faithful as God Himself! I am so thankful for my experiences in both
of these ministries and know that God used every moment in my life to
lead me to my current home. In 2002 shortly after the tragedy of 9/11,
the ministry opportunity of a lifetime (as I describe it) was afforded
to me. An invitation to minister full-time in our country’s greatest
city was offered! Never did I ever believe that I would become a “New
Yorker,” but now for the past thirteen years, I have gladly and
gratefully called New York City my home.
Youth Group
New York City has been described as the “melting
pot of the world” with nearly sixty-five to seventy percent of all
city residents being described as “foreign-born.” Approximately
seventy-five countries are represented in the Borough of Queens,
speaking over forty different languages. It is here that I have been
privileged by God to live, to work, and to minister for the past
thirteen years as the pastor of the All Nations Baptist Church. I feel
honored by God to serve Him in this “greatest of mission fields.” The
difficulties are present. The blessings are too numerous to mention.
The potential is beyond belief. My continued resolve and future prayer
for my life, my family, and my ministry is rooted in a Scriptural
promise of GOD’S FAITHFULNESS explained to me as a student many
years ago at TCA. For that, I will ever be grateful.
